Genetic Networks Accomplishments

Program members completed a genetic interaction map of the budding yeast: the first such map for any organism. After examining more than five million gene pairs, they constructed a map that clusters genes according to the key roles they play in cell survival.

  • The program inspired two major international consortia: “The Codebook Consortium,” whose goal is to decipher the syntax of gene regulation in humans and other species, and “The Genetic Interaction Atlas,” whose mandate is to uncover the set of genetic interactions that governs the cellular functions required for life. These consortia involve 17 collaborators from top institutions in the US and from Japan, Italy, Sweden and Israel.
